Starting Salary: $3,635 to $4,004/mo. DOE, DOQ OR $4,413 to $4,867/mo. DOE, DOQ

Brief Duties and Responsibilities: Both positions inspect construction and development to ensure compliance with building, fire, plumbing, mechanical and related County, City, State and natural construction codes, ordinances, regulations, and safety standards. Both Inspectors are specialized in building and fire codes and also assists the department with administration of other development regulations and investigates public complaints. Work is performed under the policies and administrative guidance of the Building Official and Director. Qualifications: Building Inspector I: Two (2) years’ journey-level experience in construction trades, and/or two (2) years’ college-level of trade schoolwork in Structural Engineering, Construction Technology, Architecture, Building Inspection Technology, or a related field. Requires minimum possession of at least one (1) International Code Council (ICC) certification or have the ability to obtain certification within six (6) months of the date of hire.
Building Inspector, Senior: Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience at a level equivalent to a Building Inspector I. Course work and training in supervision may substitute for up to six (6) months of the required experience. Any satisfactory equivalent combination of experience and training which ensures ability to perform the work may substitute for the above. Requires minimum possession of at least three (3) International Code Council (ICC) certifications.
Working Environment/Physical Abilities: Work is performed both within an office setting and out of the office at construction and inspection sites. Inspector is required to climb ladders, walk on scaffolding, enter crawl spaces under structures and operate a motor vehicle. Required to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time. Requires sufficient hearing and speech ability to communicate verbally. Requires manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate a computer, telephone, and peripherals. Must be able to lift up to twenty (20) pounds.
